I'll never understand women's sizing for clothing. I'm by no means a big girl. I'm 5'4", 125 lbs, 36-28-39. I've got my curves, and I'm so very blessed to have them in all the right places.

Here's the deal.

In women's t-shirts, I have to buy a size large. I'm not a large person. What do large people buy? I'm even in the US, where we keep getting bigger and bigger, yet little me wears a large?

In jeans I wear a size 9, but if I wear guys jeans, I fit a 31 comfortably (see: slightly baggy), so I wonder why women's sizes start so small. Guys jeans generally start at 30, maybe 29. Any smaller than that, and you're in kids sizes! Why have women decided they want to make themselves feel fat by making the sizes disproportionate? Logically, a little girl's 16 should be smaller than a women's 0. That's how it works in the mens department. Oddly enough, I can squeeze myself into that size 16. w.t.f. That shouldn't happen.

Does anyone know of an actual reason as to why the sizes are so weird?

because men don't care. if you told a women to go to the kids dept to buy clothes, she'd get offeneded. tell a guy to go there, and he won't care; all their clothes look the same from the day they're born almost.

my boyfriend has the opposite problem though; he's a 28 or even a 27 and can hardly ever find pants that fit him. so frutrustrating.

also, the insanity will never end. why do you think that a size 4 today would be a size 10 a couple decades ago?

Haha, my boyfriend has the same problem too. Being a goth he says it's hard to find pants to fit him because they're either too baggy or made for monster meat-head grippers. He's a 28" waist, poor guy.

It's nice to know my boy isn't the only one who has what the fashion industry has deemed insanely small waist for a man.

Oddly enough I find the sizing on clothing patterns to be more confusing. I'm tiny, an australian 6, 8 if I'm lucky, and when I'm shopping if I try on a size 10 skirt, it sits too low on my hips (and im a girl who wears stuff on my hips even if it should be worn on the waist, it's a comfort thing more than a fashion thing) but according to Simplicity (the best example I can think of) I'm a size 12-14 waist, 10 hips and 6 bust.
